End and Beginning part 2

I forced myself to open my eyes. I was still on Earth, still burned, lying in the grass in a clearing. The ambulance was a crumpled heap sitting on the other side of the clearing.
I saw blood and a head. I knew they were dead. But why wasn't I?
Or was I?
How could I know?
Then I felt pain rip through me, so powerful I couldn't scream. My muscles were contracting.
Is this death?
I felt razor blades underneath my skin begin to rip up through my skin. I looked at them through the corner of my eye.
What the h*ll! Scales!
I lost thought again as I felt my bones begin reforming. I grew taller; my legs became digitigrade, toes and fingers fused so I was left with three long toes on each foot, and four fingers on each hand.
I took a deep breath, then had it knocked out of me by the worst pain yet. My spine suddenly seemed to writhe under my skin, then a tail shot out, and my neck became longer. Appendages shot out my back, widening then forming wings. My ears changed, becoming finned, and my eyes felt like they were bubbling. My face suddenly reformed, giving me a draconic muzzle.  Spikes shot out the length of my spine.
Then it was over.
I felt amazingly better, but worn out.
I stood up and surveyed myself.
I was still wearing what was left of my clothes, but they were in tatters. I stood about 7' tall, with an unexpectedly long tail, about 8'. I stretched my wings. I had about an 11' wingspan. My hair was brilliant dark blue. Then I finally looked at the scales themselves, and gasped.
My underbelly was the same brilliant blue that the stone- scale- had had on it. The rest of my scales were a range between shiny black to an almost black navy blue color.
It was quite the sight to behold.
What happened to me? I should be dead twice over, but I'm alive, and an anthro dragon!

I can explain. But first you should go about 100 paces left. I had no idea what this voice was, but in hopes of an explanation, I obeyed. I found a cave big enough for me to hide in.
I fell asleep.
I dreamed I was in a field. I was still my dragon self- I guessed I would always be a dragon from now on.
"You are correct."
I jumped and turned around to find myself looking at a translucent, ethereal gray dragon. Unlike me, he was standing on all fours.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"There is no time for petty questions. I need to tell you what happened before I am gone."
"Well, ok then. Can't you at least tell me your na-" he cut me off.
"I am dead. Names no longer matter. I was the last dragon."
I remained silent.
"Good, you know when to listen. That is an important skill that will help you soon. As for my story, I knew I was the last dragon. I also knew I was dying. I killed myself and used the energy to give my scales two abilities: one, to seek out the appropriate humans for them, and two, to change them into dragons. The effort took the last energy I had, and I died, all my body except for my scales disappearing to give the scales enough energy. And so congratulations: you are one of the first modern dragons. You are our race's final hope for survival."
"But how-"
"Can you pay me back?"
"Yes. I recognize this gift for what it is. It saved my life."
"Good… Now live. That is all I ask."
He looked sad. His body flickered.
"Farewell."
He faded away, and the dream faded with him.
